The more contests you join; the more people will see you. And other photographers, businesses, etc. will begin to recognize you and become familiar with your work.

Yes, you could use your favorite search engine to look for photo contests. But, from plenty of experience, I can tell you that you are going to spend a lot of time running into contests that have ended - and some having ended long ago. That's the way search works; especially if you're using Google.
